PARTNERSHIPS
After many years of working with schools nationwide, Kathy Richardson, Program Director of Math Perspectives, and our team of instructors have identified instructional strategies that work. Kathy Richardson draws on over 30 years of experience as a classroom teacher, her work with teachers and students across the country in professional development settings, her personal research, and her expertise in developing and publishing curriculum. Our series of workshops serve as the structure for our long-term, comprehensive professional development plan. Since an important aspect of long-term professional development is ongoing support for teachers while implementing new teaching practices in the classroom, we help districts develop teacher leaders/coaches to help provide that ongoing support. |
Teacher Leaders
|
An important aspect of long-term professional development is ongoing support for teachers while implementing new teaching practices in the classroom. Teacher Leaders provide on-going support and learning opportunities for teachers. Mathematical Perspectives recommends each school site to identify two teachers per grade level (two K-2 and two 3-6) to work together to become their grade levels’ Mathematics Support Team. Teacher Leaders are chosen from the faculty of the school(s) receiving support. Identifying the best people for teacher-leader positions is vital to the success of the long-term professional development program. Teacher Leader candidates should be expected to make a long-term commitment to the program. These Teacher Leaders will participate in the professional development sessions, implementing the curriculum in their classrooms at a level of depth, reflection, and understanding. |
