MATH PERSPECTIVES
LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
2012
We are pleased to announce the dates for the 2012 Annual Institute for Math Leaders! The institute will be held from July 9-12, 2012 and will once again be in beautiful Bellingham, Washington.
This Institute is for all teacher-leaders, administrators, math coaches, math coordinators and other educators who want to ensure that all children are successful learners of mathematics.
Participants will spend four days with Kathy Richardson, one of the most highly-respected mathematics educators and authors in our country today. The focus will be on how children learn number concepts, how to assess for understanding using the Assessing Math Concepts assessment series and how to use the assessment data and reports to plan for differentiated instruction.
Assessing Math Concepts is a series of nine assessments that are both formative and diagnostic. They are individual interviews that focus on number. The information gathered from the assessments helps teachers pinpoint what each child knows before instruction and what they need to learn. They are not about 'helping children be right' but about uncovering what practice or instruction each student still needs. Assessing Math Concepts also helps identify students who need intervention.
Participants will learn to use the data and reports from the Assessing Math Concepts series to:
- Be Intentional with Instruction
- Plan for Differentiated Instruction
- Ensure each student is working at their appropriate level
- Make sure each student is able to make sense of the math they are learning
Participants will receive a complimentary copy of How Children Learn Number Concepts: A Guide to the Critical Learning Phases by Kathy Richardson, out now!
